Palm Sunday ~ Bible Journaling

My bible has lots of stuff in it....notes, pictures, cards, a new $1 bill and I am not sure why but it is there. My bible is a study bible with lots of scripture underlined . My bible was and still is a text book of sorts. I no longer have graded test on the Old and New Testaments but I always learn something new each time I open to read.
There are new bibles on the market now with larger margins on each side for note taking or "journaling" as we now call it. And there is a new term for doodling in your bible, " Illustrated Faith". I am part of a bible journaling community on Facebook and you should she some of the wonderful illustrated faith posts that folks are making. I will post some on this page. You will say,                       " shut the door" . Their bibles are becoming works of art....very expressive. I love it!
I choose not to buy a new journaling bible but to use my old one..you know, the one with the $1 bill in it for no reason. I am finding ways to illustrate what scriptures are special to me so I came up with a scrapbook way of illustrating.
Illustrated Faith is really a bible study on it's own. Expressing what the scripture means using different forms of art......in your bible. How great is that!

This is my Palm Sunday page. I cut up the Sunday worship folder from church . I choose  one of my favorite palm Sunday hymns and mounted it on some scrapbooking card stock  that I had. Several prayers were placed in a cute pocket card mounted on card stock with pretty trim added.
I used colored pencils to color on top of the Palm Sunday scripture.....colors of the stain glass in the church windows.

The card slides out to reveal the prayers .

The card is attached with washi tape so it can be flipped over to read the bible text. I decorated the back of the pocket with sticker letters and more card stock.

What's In Your Bible?

Today, a very dear sweet friend who is really down on her luck asked me for some scripture to help her handle some things she is dealing with.  There were many that I could have shared with her but for some reason Psalm 91:4 came to mind.

He will cover you with His feathers and under His wings you will find refuge. Psalm 91:4

As I was thinking about how powerful these words are and how meaningful they are to me I decide to  mark them in my bible in a special way.
See what this Frogger did!

I went to my computer and printed the verse in a pretty font .
Then I cut it to fit inside the pocket card and put a piece of folded washi tape( I love this stuff)  at the top for a pull tab.
I secured the pocket card to my bible page with a strip of washi tape.
I found some cute bird stickers in my sticker stash and added one to the front and one to the back.

I added a sweet busy bee to the scripture card.

The card flips over so the entire text of the page can be seen. The pocket card is still in place with the washi tape holding it in place.
The back is just a pretty as the front.

Here is the scripture card. Print It. Share It.

Resurrection Eggs

Here is a great idea to down scale the resurrection egg activity for your toddler or young preschooler using 6 eggs instead  of 12!
Everything you need you probably have at home.

I love this idea from Happy Home Fairy. View her blog for some resurrection goodness.

Here is a free 8x10 jpeg printable to share with neighbors, teachers, friends and family.
Have your child color the eggs and words with wonderful spring colors. Fold it up and place it in a large plastic egg. The large egg can be decorated with stickers markers . Tie with a sweet ribbon
and share.

Family Affirmation Boards

Affirmations: Speaking words of encouragement to our kids and spouses unleashes divine power
into their lives. It helps set them up for success, gives them happy hearts and helps them to feel good about themselves. When we do, God hears us and blesses our words.
A simple but powerful idea.
Let us work together to drown out all of the negative voices with applause of affirmation. Words of beauty, truth and love.
Be thankful to those special people in our lives who support us, uplift us, comforts us and who bring joy to our souls.
#wearefamily#jesuslovesme#jesuslovesyou

Just this Sunday families from our church attended a Faith In the Family Workshop and worked together to design and then created their own Affirmation Boards. Great ideas and great affirmation goodness came from using stickers, wash tape magnets and markers.

I have illustrated for you, two ways your affirmation board can look.

Below you will find a page of directions with ideas of how to use the affirmation board. It is a free printable.
Also, you can print all of the prompt cards and headings.

St. Patrick's Day Activities

We are just a few days away form the first day of Spring and St. Patrick's Day. Flowers are blooming inside and out. I always buy my traditional St. Patrick's Day Shamrock ( Oxalis regnellii) from my local grocery store usually the week before St. Patrick's Day. The leaves are shaped like clover and fold up at night, as if they are praying. I love the the small white blooms that the shamrock gives when in sunlight.
For me, the blooming shamrock is one of the first signs of Spring and the hope that warmer, longer days are just around the corner.
So......buy a Shamrock . Visit Gardening Know How to learn how to take care of this little pretty.

Get creative with the plain plastic wrapped sugar cookie dough that you find in the store. Use your heart cookie cutter to make shamrock cookies. Then decorate, decorate!

Visit Sugar Productions to see how she makes the stem and other ways of decorating ....that you might not have thought about.

Now, get out all of those leftover Christmas cookie supplies to make some yummy St.Patrick's Day treats. Do they all have to be shades of green? Why, of course not! Decorate with the colors of the rainbow and of course some gold sprinkles!

How about some "Lucky" four leaf clovers to color?

Leprechaun Playdough

Leprechaun Play Dough

Easiest play dough ever!
My grand daughter had a great time helping with this St. Patrick's Day play dough recipe.
Kneading the dough into sparkly Leprechaun dust......more commonly know as glitter, was the best part of the recipe. She took it to school to share with her friends.

Oh.......DID YOU KNOW that play dough should be replaced in the classroom on a weekly basis. it gets dirty.
